Mr. Praveen Vasudevan, PhD student of Prof. David's research group from the Department LL&M (Clinic for Cardiac Surgery), was recently accepted into the Young Investigator Academy of the German Research Foundation (DFG) due to his excellent research work. Within this framework, he can now apply for a DFG junior researcher project with the option of DFG follow-up funding. This is a great honor for him and the entire research group, as only 20 participants from the entire German-speaking region including Austria and Switzerland were selected for this. His proposal has already been largely completed and also agreed with his DFG mentors. The research topic he now wants to pursue further was already aimed at the inflammatory processes in the heart muscle after an infarction during his dissertation, which he will still defend in August 2021 - here, the interaction of transplanted heart muscle cells, for example obtained from stem cells, with the immune response could offer a key for future therapies. Mr. Vasudevan has already published three original papers on this topic in internationally recognized journals as first author and is also co-inventor on a patent application at the university.
