The logo of our Department reflects the four research areas that shaped its foundation: Catalysis, Photonics, Medicine, and Simulation Technology. These fields continue to represent the scientific roots of LL&M and its strong commitment to interdisciplinary research.

LL&M is proud of these origins and of the successful developments that have emerged from the interaction of these four research areas. Close collaboration across disciplinary boundaries remains the cornerstone of our research profile and our scientific culture.

The redesigned logo combines this tradition with the Department's current strategic direction. While preserving its historical identity, the modernized design reflects the evolution of LL&M and highlights its present research priorities—Light on Matter, Matter at the Nanoscale, and Cells in Contact—as well as its shared vision of establishing the University of Rostock as an internationally recognized center of excellence for Atomic and Molecular Scale Sensing.

As part of the Department's strategic development, the promotional film has also been comprehensively redesigned. It introduces all four Departments of the Interdisciplinary Faculty, presenting their scientific profiles and highlighting their shared commitment to advancing interdisciplinary research excellence at the University of Rostock.
