Professor Dominik Kraus, a physicist at the University of Rostock and Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), has been awarded a prestigious ERC Consolidator Grant worth two million euros. The funding supports his research into chemical processes under extreme pressure and temperature conditions, aiming to develop groundbreaking new materials.
Kraus’s project, Dynamic Megabar Chemistry, focuses on the synthesis of innovative material structures, including the BC-8 carbon phase, which could exhibit extraordinary properties. Initial experiments will take place in laser laboratories in Rostock and at international large-scale research facilities.
This recognition highlights the University of Rostock’s strength in fundamental research and enhances its global scientific visibility and collaboration.
