Two International Mare Balticum Fellows Visiting the LL&M Research Building

Since late August 2026, Professor Matthew Reilly from The Ohio State University has been conducting research at the LL&M Research Building. Together with Professor Oliver Stachs, the expert in ocular biomechanics is investigating the mechanical properties of the cornea and the crystalline lens using advanced Brillouin microscopy. His three-month stay also includes a seminar and intensive exchange with doctoral researchers and postdoctoral fellows.

Professor Janne Jänis from the University of Eastern Finland is also expected to arrive at the Research Building in late September. The internationally renowned expert in high-resolution mass spectrometry will work with Professor Ralf Zimmermann and Dr Christopher Rüger on new analytical methods for complex mixtures, including those derived from polymers, biomass and plastic waste.

The two fellowships strengthen the Department’s international network and open up new opportunities for collaborative research projects and the professional development of early-career researchers.
