Today, the University of Rostock expanded its research infrastructure with the arrival of a state-of-the-art ZEISS Xradia Versa Micro-CT system. The X-ray microscope has been delivered to the Life, Light & Matter (LL&M) Research Building and will be installed, calibrated, and tested by ZEISS specialists over the coming weeks.
With an investment volume of approximately €2.5 million, the system will provide new opportunities for the non-destructive three-dimensional analysis of complex structures in materials, biological tissues, and technical components. It enables researchers to visualize the internal structure of samples at high resolution without causing any damage.
The scientific operation of the instrument will be coordinated by the research group of Prof. Dr. Berit Zeller-Plumhoff. Following its commissioning this summer, the Micro-CT system will be available for interdisciplinary use by researchers from materials science, engineering, physics, life sciences, and medicine.
"With the new ZEISS Xradia Versa system, we are strengthening high-resolution materials and structural characterization at the University of Rostock while creating new opportunities for collaborative research across disciplines," says Prof. Dr. Berit Zeller-Plumhoff.
The new large-scale research instrument will be presented to the scientific community this autumn at the Department Meeting of Life, Light & Matter.
The acquisition provides researchers from a wide range of disciplines with shared access to advanced infrastructure for high-resolution three-dimensional imaging.
