The Department of Life, Light & Matter (LL&M) at the University of Rostock is expanding its teaching and exchange formats in the summer semester 2026, strengthening the interface between research, methodology, and application.
At the core of this initiative is the new lecture course Multiscale Materials Characterisation, jointly delivered by several members of the department. The course provides an overview of key methods for characterising materials across different length scales, introduces selected instruments from the LL&M research building and its broader research environment, and strengthens interdisciplinary training within the Master’s programmes in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering.
In addition, a FLINTA* lecture series will complement the curriculum by offering insights into industrial perspectives on materials science. In three evening talks, external speakers from industry and professional organisations will present application-oriented topics, career pathways, and current challenges.
With these formats, the Department LL&M fostering stronger connections between academic research and practical application.
