Cognition, Orientation & Memory

The project area Cognition, Orientation & Memory bundles a spectrum of iniatives in the field of dementia research in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

In Germany, more than a million people are affected by senile dementia, and it is assumed that this number will almost double by 2050. The decline in memory and other cognitive functions creates a variety of problems for the patient, their environment and society. The goals of our work are to maintain cognitive performance in old age, to compensate for performance losses and to improve acceptance and opportunities for participation by those affected. Participation in the Dementia Working Group initiates interdisciplinary projects in the field of tension between clinical dementia research, basic research, epidemiology and information technology.
