The department considers the processing of its research results for politics and society as one of its key tasks. The know-how of its members on demographic change issues, age and dementia research are designed be used in an optimum way.

Accordingly, the department regularly contributes to the Thinktank Demography, a series of events guided by the Rostock Centre for Investigating Demographic Change.

Next to that, the department also acts in an advisory capacity. On behalf of the Commission of Inquiry "Growing older in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern", a fundamental expertise entitled „Living situation in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern“ was issued to form a scientific basis of the commission work.
